The Shreveport-Bossier Advocate seeks a sports editor

The Shreveport-Bossier Advocate is seeking an experienced journalist to lead our sports coverage for the largest news organization in Louisiana. We’re searching for someone who lives and breathes local athletics and can tap the Shreveport-Bossier City high school and college sports community to break news and write compelling features and analysis in a competitive digital media market.

The sports editor will work as part of a team of 10 journalists to launch and produce a new, daily digital news product – including a website, daily newsletters, an app and social media platforms. We’re looking for a dynamic journalist who thrives in a startup environment and consistently seeks new ways to engage readers while upholding our standards of fairness and accuracy.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit local sports stories
  • Identify topic areas of reader interest, drawing from community feedback and reader metrics
  • Assign stories to freelancers
  • Analyze digital metrics and help the company meet its digital goals
  • Contribute stories and other writing to a 7-day-a-week email newsletter, and launch an additional sports-focused newsletter to serve readers

Job Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to work some nights and holidays
  • A focus on producing accurate and factual stories
  • Experience as an editor or reporter
  • Proficiency with digital publishing tools, including a web CMS and email newsletter publishing
