The Roller Skating Association is looking for writers

The Roller Skating Association International is looking for  freelance writers willing to begin working with our organization on a 1099 basis. Article topics may vary from how to increase profits and the best way to reach specific age groups to marketing tactics and business law.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Roller Skating Association International is a not-for-profit association created to serve the needs of roller skating rink owners. Six times per year we publish a magazine, Rinksider Magazine, which addresses the needs of these business owners.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have 5 YEARS OF WRITING EXPERIENCE (with pre-edited portfolio examples).
  • Must have an exemplary understanding of grammar, punctuation and AP guidelines.
  • Must not be afraid to pick up the phone. Most of our interviews won’t be done through e-mail and will take place after normal business hours and during the weekends, as many business owners are in their place of business in the evening and on weekends.
  • Must be able to research a topic. We require anywhere between 5-7 interviews per piece, so you’ll be working with a lot of people – high energy and passion for writing is a must.
  • Must be able to think outside of the box and be willing to research statistics, facts, and other data required of the assignments.
  • Must have a quick turn around time. In most instances, articles will be assigned a month out and are expected to be on time.
  • Must be able to work with business owners and understand their need for privacy.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

  • Include your full name (no initials), mailing address, phone number, cell number and email address.
  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Three (3) samples or links to samples of your pre-edited work.

COMPENSATION

  •  .10/cents per word – We currently publish 1000 copies per month. With our readership being so niche, we pay .10/cents per word with a typical word count of 1500-2500 words for features and 700-800 words for columns, depending on the article. Because we’re not-for-profit and have a strict budget, this is a fixed rate. Once we establish your ability and turn around time, you may be given more assignments.
