The Republican seeks an associate editor

The Republican, in Springfield, Massachusetts, is looking for an associate editor to help guide our news and feature reporting.

Today, The Republican is honing its mission to focus on aggressive, in-depth coverage that serves the people of Western Massachusetts and moves the needle on public understanding. We strive to break stories that explain what life is really like for everyday people. Stories that hold officials to account. Coverage that skips the BS and brings the concerns of real people into focus.

The position of Associate Editor is the No. 2 job in our newsroom. This is a job with many meaningful parts – big-picture planner, line editor, mentor to reporters and visual journalists, liaison to communities and audiences, editorial writer, talent recruiter, coverage coach. The Republican is hiring after a recent period of turnover. We’re resetting our priorities to better fulfill reader and viewer interests today.

For this position, you should possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A passion for news and information, delivering it on digital and print platforms
  • At least five years of experience reporting and editing news for a daily publication
  • Superior writing and editing skills
  • A willingness to be part of a team, and the wish to help every team member succeed
  • An ability to independently set and reach daily and weekly work goals
  • A knack for handling multiple projects and a proven ability to meet deadlines
