The Real Deal seeks a news editor in Chicago

The Real Deal is looking for an editor to help oversee its daily coverage. The editor will be responsible for assigning and editing daily stories, responding fast to breaking news and planning follow-up stories and larger features.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in covering money and power and a keen desire to learn how the industry brings together elements of politics, business, finance and law.

Experience editing real estate, politics or local news is a plus.

Job requirements:
·        Ability to juggle breaking news with daily editing assignments
·        Familiarity with CMS publishing and web production
·        Familiarity with Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Twitter and Facebook, with an eye toward making decisions factoring in reader engagement
·        Understanding of SEO and similar content production best practices
·        Knack for writing clever, catchy headlines
·        Team player with positive, proactive, problem-solving attitude
·        The vision to see groundbreaking stories in the real estate industry

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
