The Post and Courier (Greenville) seeks a managing editor – Upstate

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Post and Courier is looking for a managing editor to run its Greenville/Spartanburg newsroom. The locally owned newspaper is investing in its newsroom and continues to expand statewide.

This is a start-up, a two-year-old newsroom that we are building from the ground up. We are looking for a leader with a start-up mentality, excited to grow our readership and subscriptions in a new market.

The growing Greenville/Spartanburg metro area, known as South Carolina’s business hub, has plenty of stories to tell.

Greenville is in a residential and commercial construction boom after a downtown transformation. Spartanburg is beginning a major downtown redevelopment with a minor-league baseball stadium. And areas around these two major cities are seeing surges in population as more people migrate for warmer weather, the lower cost of living and opportunities to work at top employers, including BMW’s only U.S. plant and Clemson University.

Our staff of nine reporters explore how this growth puts a strain on the region, while sharing a variety of vital news to readers who want deep-reporting about what is happening to their community.

The largest daily newspaper in South Carolina has developed a reputation as one of the nation’s leading watchdog news organizations and does not shy away from asking the tough questions.

The Post and Courier wants aggressive editors who can help get news quickly, who can seek out impactful enterprise stories and who are skilled coaches able to provide strong and clear guidance to reporters. The editor also must excel as a collaborator in working with the newspaper’s eight other newsrooms.

Send a cover letter, resume and clips to Executive Editor Autumn Phillips at aphillips@postandcourier.com.

We are an equal opportunity employer and drug-free workplace.
