The Plug is looking for writers to contribute to cover news, feature, and data stories on the Black innovation economy.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Launched in 2016 as the first daily tech newsletter covering Black startups and ecosystems that are shaping the future of business around the globe. Get the insights you need to understand emerging teams, talent, founders, hubs, deals, and more.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • The writers will be expected to contribute mid-to-long form articles, feature stories, data visualizations on trends shaping the Black innovation economy.
  • All writers are responsible for independently researching and writing pieces aimed at an audience of venture capitalists, tech executives, policymakers, and foundation program officers.
  • Stories must include interviews with subjects as well as credible secondary research sources and data.

WHAT THE PLUG IS LOOKING FOR

  • Enthusiasm for Black culture, new technology, and trends
  • Candidates must have flexibility and great organizational skills
  • Fresh perspective and an eagerness to pitch ideas to their digital newsroom
  • Candidate should be willing to grow and learn in a startup environment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Short and long-form content reporting experience of at least one year
  • Thorough understanding of the technology industry
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of G-Suite, WordPress, ASANA, and other remote technical tools for team and project collaboration
  • Pursuing or holds a bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or English
  • Strong research skills and thorough knowledge of journalistic standards, ethics, and AP guidelines
  • Be self-motivated with an ability to meet deadlines
