The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette seeks a health & wellness reporter

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Western Pennsylvania’s largest newspaper, is looking for an ambitious and innovative journalist to cover one of America’s most dynamic health communities. We are seeking an inquisitive reporter to write evidence-based stories on topics including fitness and nutrition, mental health, sleep and stress management. The job will include some health news reporting — including but not limited to public health topics of accessible care and disparities — as well as writing service pieces for our growing health section, which aims to help readers take steps to live better lives and learn about medical advancements happening in the Pittsburgh area. We want stories that will not only inform and support readers but surprise and delight them as well.

Candidates should:

  • Be able to write timely, well-reported and thought-provoking stories
  • Be able to find fresh angles on health topics, drawing from what’s happening in the wider world, including popular culture and social media
  • Be able to generate ideas for service pieces that are relevant and engaging
  • Be eager to be part of a transforming newsroom working to provide deep coverage of a diverse and changing community.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism
  • 2 to 5 years of experience, preferably on digital platforms
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Display exceptional work ethic, time management and organizational skills
