The New York Times seeks an executive producer

The New York Times is building on the success of The Daily with a new daily news program. The show leans into the distinct advantage of the Times’ newsroom: journalists who span the globe, have unmatched expertise and can help listeners understand the world.

We’re seeking a seasoned Executive Producer of this new show is a seasoned audio journalist, newsroom leader, story editor and manager who is drawn to building systems and structures that will support ambitious work on tight deadlines. This role requires someone who is highly skilled in every aspect of editing — from structure to pacing to line editing to noting the stray breath and the piece of music that comes in one beat too late — and who can nurture innovation and sustainability while cultivating a culture of collaboration.

The Executive Producer will help set the long term editorial vision and priorities of the show as well as develop and manage relationships with the core newsroom and key internal and external stakeholders. This role will also ensure the show’s staff is thriving and has opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the overall direction and sound of the show, establishing an ambitious editorial vision and coverage priorities, while maintaining the highest editorial standards of our newsroom.
  • Be a thoughtful and empathetic leader of people and process, train and inspire young journalists.
  • Drive recruiting and staffing needs, cultivating ongoing relationships with essential and emerging talent
  • Edit segments of the show.
  • Oversee and continually improve show operations – including managing production systems and resources of the team, supporting development of budgets, and developing and supporting the show’s DEI initiatives.
  • Be the key point of contact for NYT stakeholders as it relates to this show, including The Daily, finance, HR, marketing and communications, desk heads, editors and reporters to work with on important and breaking news stories.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of production and editing experience in audio journalism, 5+ of those in a management role of a large team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in and passion for news and for audio narratives
  • An eagerness to create the best work possible
  • Willingness and ability to use data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Belief in The New York Times’ mission

The annual base pay range for this role is between $180,000.00 and $200,000.00.
