We are looking for someone who thrives under the pressure of daily newsroom deadlines and has a track record of working efficiently while juggling multiple projects at a time.

The video journalist should constantly be thinking ahead, planning whenever possible to cover upcoming stories tied to relevant and critical news angles. The ability to be flexible throughout the producing process is imperative, with the capacity to pivot editorial or storytelling strategy if necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring the news day across core areas of coverage
  • Producing breaking news stories independently or in collaboration with colleagues across the newsroom, whether remotely or by deploying to the scene
  • Pitching reporting and coverage opportunities, participating in news planning in order to adhere to daily deadlines and an extended schedule as the news cycle requires
  • Experience using news wire services such as AP and Reuters to review / clear footage and find the strongest visuals for homepage and video packages
  • Setting up and monitoring live feeds, and adding text and graphics to news packages as needed
  • Writing succinct and effective copy for video assets (titles, summaries, tags, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of journalism experience in a newsroom (digital or broadcast)
  • Familiarity with the video production process, including strong writing and researching skills
  • Working knowledge of current events with demonstrated experience covering a daily news cycle
  • Ability to meet fast deadlines and adapt to a daily, unpredictable news production environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working collaboratively and reporting across a wide range of topics
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends
  • General knowledge of legal, ethical, copyright and usage issues for visuals
  • Editing and cinematography skills are a plus

This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $108,872.22 and $118,000.00.
