The New York Times seeks a staff reporter, weddings

We are seeking a passionate, intrepid and resourceful weddings reporter who possesses a strong network of industry connections and an extensive, diverse list of credible sources. This person will bring fresh perspectives and captivating storytelling skills that will aid in illuminating the nuanced and sometimes complex realms of love, marriage, relationships and, of course, weddings.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Pitch and write roughly one to three in-depth, reported articles a week of varying lengths, including Vows, Mini-Vows, and other wedding features.
  • Create reader callouts and follow-up UGC articles.
  • Conceive and develop stories at the intersection of love, dating, relationships, marriage, weddings, culture, and style.
  • Regularly monitor news, social media and industry trends in the weddings and relationships space to identify and quickly produce fresh, compelling stories relevant to our audience.
  • Collaborate with the weddings editor to develop dynamic wedding and relationship articles and larger projects that also appeal to a broader, diverse audience.
  • Attend weddings and industry events.

Basic Qualifications:

  • You should have a plethora of ideas, a track record of breaking news, and a strong ambition to be the go-to source for a wedding-obsessed audience.
  • Experience delivering best-in-class lifestyle journalism.
  • Well-organized and highly proficient in researching and writing for a range of story forms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passionate about love, marriage, and relationships.
  • 2+ years of lifestyle/wedding reporting.
  • Experience at a news organization.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $108,878.22 and $125,000.00.
