The New York Times seeks a senior news assistant, Well

The Times is seeking an organized multitasker with strong news judgment, reporting skills, and an interest in health and wellness, to work as a senior news assistant on the Well desk. This person will support the editors and reporters on the team to produce best-in-class service journalism, features and news. The right candidate will be a cross-functional thinker, collaborative worker and quick learner who is detail-oriented and rigorous about accountability.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating digital and print calendars and assignments
  • Share regular news scans, including relevant links to news outlets and scientific research
  • Ensure Well’s section front and sub-section pages are consistently updated with new articles by posting published stories
  • Assist in recommending articles for promotion on the Times homepage and in print
  • Assist in writing headlines, captions and social media copy for new articles
  • Maintain a calendar of upcoming books and media relevant to Well, call in review copies and screeners and track them
  • Monitor and respond to freelance submissions and reader mail; and track comments for potential story ideas
  • Help produce a variety of story formats including articles, interactives and video
  • Support the team with fact checking and additional reporting for news, enterprise and features, as needed
  • Participate in pitch meetings and brainstorms for upcoming Well stories

  • Dedication to accuracy
  • An eye for packaging content in a smart and engaging way
  • A keen interest in health and wellness

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience working for a news organization or health and lifestyle publication

The annual base pay range for this role is between $74,816.04 and $76,000.00.
