The New York Times is seeking a motivated, talented and versatile day editor who is eager to jump into one of the most important and competitive coverage areas: the 2024 election.
The ideal candidate will bring a collaborative and collegial spirit to a job that requires strong editing skills and excellent communication. This role needs a sure-footed journalist who is calm under pressure and comfortable switching between fast-moving live coverage in one breath and more traditional story editing the next.
Experience with political coverage and knowledge of the subject matter is important. Candidates should be thoughtful editors who can move quickly without sacrificing accuracy and tone.
This position entails monitoring our competitors and other sources of political news, communicating swiftly and effectively with other politics editors as well as other newsroom departments, helping to get breaking news reporters launched on stories and first-editing or second-editing those stories, and others, as they land.
