The New York Times seeks a news assistant, Washington bureau

The Washington Bureau is looking for a news assistant to answer phones, keep the daily Washington schedule, fact-check copy on deadline, work with the social media team to promote Washington stories, help reporters with logistics, research and assist reporters with assigned duties, and occasionally write stories.

This job is often more interesting than it sounds. You’ll work with great reporters and absorb a lot. You should be flexible, cheerful, adaptive, quick-thinking, level-headed in stressful situations and interested in the news.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in journalism, conducting research and fact-checking and/or text editing for published media strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Times Style and the newspaper’s standards and ethics guidelines
  • An appreciation for local Washington, DC journalism and understanding of the broader media landscape

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $65,000.00 and $65,000.00.
