The New York Times seeks a media editor

February 15, 2023

The New York Times is looking for an editor to lead our coverage of the media industry, a wide ranging beat that includes local newspapers, digital publications, cable news and the influence of technology on the industry.

This editor will need to be able to spot important and urgent news of the day and also be able to shape coverage of the biggest issues in an industry that is in the middle of a transformation, reshaping how we consume information and sometimes inflaming divisions in our society.

This is an opportunity to define a high profile beat that is essential to The Times’s coverage of business, politics and national news. As part of the Business desk, this editor will collaborate with colleagues from across the section and the newsroom.

We’re looking for someone with sharp editorial judgment who can work with reporters who have a wide range of experience on the beat — serving as a coach, manager and guide in a constantly changing news environment. This editor should be as comfortable assigning and editing a short story aimed for our live briefing on news of the day as they are editing a 2,000 word feature for the front page of the paper.

This position is based in New York.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $134,000.00 and $185,000.00.
