The New York Times seeks a graphics/multimedia editor, front-end, weather data team

The New York Times is looking for a strong graphics editor who will create interactive graphics for The Times’s coverage of day-to-day weather and extreme weather events.

This graphics editor will work with fellow designers, developers and editors, both on the weather data team as well as in Graphics and Interactive News, to produce analytical journalism and create new visual approaches to weather coverage. Projects will very likely include live displays of weather data, interactive maps, statistical visualizations, data analysis, animations, and creative approaches that don’t yet exist. The editor will pursue original reporting and will be expected to exercise journalistic and visual judgment to ensure the accuracy and clarity of their work.

The Right Candidate Will Have The Following:

  • Expertise in web development, including Javascript, HTML and CSS.
  • Experience with geospatial data in a variety of formats.
  • Strong visual and interactive design skills with a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion and user behavior.
  • Experience with and a preference for working collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news production environment.
  • Technical creativity, curiosity and versatility.
  • Genuine excitement about — and experience with — finding, exploring and transforming data sets.
  • Experience writing about, analyzing or modeling weather or climate data is a plus.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $105,308.84 and $136,000.00.
