The New York Times seeks a deputy content editor, Print Hub

The Print Hub is seeking a Content Editor to help prepare and curate the best and most influential newspaper in the business. This is a leadership position that requires excellent news judgment, broad curiosity, vision and the ability to work across the newsroom to plan and coordinate story play in the newspaper, as well as reformulate the front page to reflect unexpected developments.

 

Given the importance of the Sunday newspaper in the print ecosystem, this person will work Tuesday through Saturday, with priority emphasis on the Sunday newspaper. This editor will work closely with the Page One editor, Planning Editors and the Print Hub’s other Content Editors in assigning work, ensuring that deadlines are met and that the newspaper is of the highest quality throughout.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Partnering with the News Desk and Enterprise Editors to align on areas of priority for the report as a whole, with an emphasis on Saturday for the Sunday newspaper.
  • Tracking evolving digital news priorities and planning how those will apply to print and identifying news events worthy of distinct treatment in print, as well as helping shape digital projects like interactives and videos.for print.
  • Working closely with the Planning Editors, other Content Editors and Design Directors in both the News and Features Print Hubs to strategize about story play, timing of publication and news priorities
  • Steering the paper to press on Saturday morning and afternoon, including assigning and shepherding Page One stories to Hub editors, vetting those headlines; and keeping an eye on the content across the rest of the print report.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of editorial experience, especially in daily news reporting.
  • Familiarity with newspaper production and deadlines.
  • Exceptional editorial judgment and attention to detail.
  • Well-versed in the day’s news stories, and a wide variety of ongoing story lines.
  • Demonstrated success at collaborating across a newsroom and with a range of departments across different topics.
  • Commitment to The New York Times’s mission and values.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours – some evening shifts, weekend days and holidays, with a typical schedule of Tuesday through Saturday.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $140,000.00 and $150,000.00.
