The New York Times is seeking an editor to lead and grow Climate Forward, the Times’s newsletter dedicated to coverage of climate change and its economic, political, technological and social consequences. Candidates should be ambitious journalists with excellent writing, editing and news judgment skills, along with significant experience with digital audiences, including newsletters, products and live news coverage. Candidates should be highly motivated and have the drive to grow an editorial franchise with live events and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editorial leadership: Manage a team of dedicated newsletter writers, and provide editorial guidance to other reporters around the newsroom contributing to the newsletter.
- Idea generation: In collaboration with reporters, come up with compelling, on-the-news story ideas that set the agenda for the Climate Forward newsletter.
- Newsletter editing and production: Oversee the entire production process of the newsletter, ensuring high-quality content and timely delivery.
- Enterprise editing: Identify and shape significant enterprise reporting projects in addition to regular newsletter content.
- Events collaboration: Partner with the Events team to direct the editorial content of the Climate Forward franchise and related live events.
Basic Qualifications:
- Proven experience applying sound judgment to the news.
- At least 5-10 years of experience in journalism
- Experience managing people and projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in covering/editing climate, science, business, technology, and/or policy preferred.
- Demonstrated professional and warm communication with colleagues from across many departments, newsrooms and time zones.
- Commitment to The New York Times’s strategy, standards and mission
