Join the 2024 New York Times fellowship as an audience producer of visual content in New York.
The Times is looking for an ambitious and creative candidate to join its visual teams as an audience producer fellow focused on creating off-platform content for X, Facebook, Instagram and more. As The Times continues to produce and showcase visual journalism at the forefront of our core products, we’re looking for someone to help bring our visual journalism to life on a variety of social media platforms.
The fellow will work on daily news and politics, features and series, and bigger enterprise and investigative projects to bring our journalism to off-platform audiences. Coordinating with journalists on our visual teams is an essential part of this work, and understanding our editorial priorities is crucial. This role includes experimenting with formats, focusing on speed during breaking news, building a regular publishing cadence and optimizing our workflows.
The ideal candidate should possess a strong sense of story, as well as have a good grasp of photojournalism, video journalism, graphics and art direction. The fellow will initiate and execute visual stories, including through photo and video editing and information design.
Candidates should be able to collaborate in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects. They also should be able to leverage tools to grow our off-platform presence and engage a younger, global audience. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Requirements:
This program is for early-career journalists. Newsroom experience is preferred, but it is not required. Applicants with more than five years of full-time, professional journalism experience beyond school will not be considered. The most competitive candidates will be college graduates or postgraduates or career pivoters of any age who have had multiple news or visual internships, or equivalent experience.
To apply, upload a résumé and cover letter, packaged in that order and uploaded as one single .pdf or .doc file that is under 5 MB in size. The application will prompt candidates when to upload materials. The application also will ask candidates to provide a link to their portfolios. Applications that fail to include any of these materials or follow these instructions will not be considered.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We will not sponsor work visas for the fellowship, but we may consider you if you have an existing work visa or a valid student visa that can be extended via Optional Practical Training.
Applicants may apply to only one fellowship position per year. For instance, if you apply as an audience producer, you should not apply for any other positions in the fellowship. Duplicate applications will be discarded.
The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Dec. 1. Our advice is to apply well before the deadline.
Keep in mind that the fellowships are very competitive and generate a high level of interest. We won’t be able to accept applications that are mailed or emailed to us. Nor will we acknowledge the status of your application upon receipt. We will contact you for interviews as needed.
This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.
The annual base pay salary for this role is $79,214.76.
