Posted by Mariam Ahmed

The Miami Herald seeks an experienced investigative reporter to join our legendary team.

We are committed to ambitious, high-impact journalism and have a long history of delivering it. With work that exposed Mob influence in 1950s Miami, changed laws on how Florida treats its most vulnerable residents, and revealed the sweetheart deal that enabled serial sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to escape serious punishment, the Miami Herald’s investigative legacy dates back decades.

Applicants should be hungry to do the kind of work that reveals what others want to hide, holds those in power to account, engages readers and drives change. They should have a track record of generating highly-relevant project ideas and delivering bulletproof, seamless reads. They should be adept at thinking beyond the narrative, conceiving and collaborating on ambitious multimedia storytelling.

We are looking for an excellent team player who can work independently as well as collaborate on team projects, and someone who is excited about working in a bilingual newsroom in one of the most diverse communities in the United States. Language skills – Spanish, Portuguese, French/Creole – all add value in South Florida.

We’re looking for an experienced journalist who:

  • Excels at generating high-interest, high-impact project ideas
  • Can find and cultivate sources, consistently and under competitive pressure
  • Is relentless with public records, data, and shoe leather reporting
  • Writes like a dream
  • Works well with others
  • Is determined to deliver ambitious reporting that makes a difference, and has a track record of doing so

Requirements:

  • Accuracy and integrity in reporting
  • Commitment to representing the diversity of our community in coverage
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities and teams
  • Enthusiasm for alternative formats and multimedia storytelling
  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • At least five years reporting experience, and significant experience in accountability and investigative work
