The Messenger is building a team of up-and-coming and seasoned reporters to cover U.S. markets and economics. Markets reporters will be the first-word investors read on the biggest trades of the day, they will explain why the Dow has slid 1,000 points over two days and deliver the hottest earnings news. You be well versed in U.S. equities, bonds, commodities, and currency markets. Your job will start early, sometimes requiring a quick story on overseas markets if the Nikkei tumbles in Japan or Euronext surges overnight. You will turn around quick copy on stocks that tank following fresh accusations of executive wrongdoing or if the latest Musk tweet sends Tesla’s shares soaring.
Economics reporters will be experts at analyzing statistics, will WANT to plan vacations around FOMC meetings and will be able to glance at data sets and quickly conclude what it means to consumers. This team has the tall task of taking complex federal data and turning it into easy-to-digest stories for a broad consumer audience.
We are looking for a mix of talent to build out this team, from ambitious, up-and-coming stars to seasoned veterans who have sources deep inside the Federal Reserve, Wall Street and government agencies and can parachute into the latest quagmire of federal data and quickly turn around crisp and informative copy.
