The Messenger seeks a social media manager, audience development

This position is fully remote and can be worked from anywhere in the United States. Hybrid options are available for candidates working near one of our offices in New York or D.C. Our team members may be assigned to a variety of shifts, which could include weekends, mornings, regular 9-5 hours, or shifts extending into the evening. The nature of our work demands a level of availability that aligns with the dynamic nature of the news cycle and social media engagement.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Social Media Manager to join our newsroom. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing and publishing short-form content on text-first social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, as well as optimizing and publishing editorial content on social media platforms. The ideal candidate will also be adept at writing high-growth stories for social media.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement social media strategies that align with our editorial goals and audience interests.
  • Produce and publish short-form content on text-first platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • Optimize and publish editorial content on social media platforms, including headlines, captions, and visuals.
  • Write high-growth stories for social media, including breaking news, trending topics, and multimedia packages.
  • Monitor social media platforms and other sources to identify stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
  • Collaborate with reporters, editors, and other members of the editorial team to develop and produce social media content.
  • Manage social media accounts, including scheduling and publishing posts, responding to comments and messages, and engaging with our audience.
  • Analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies accordingly to optimize engagement and reach.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, developments, and emerging technologies related to social media and digital content distribution.
  • Provide social media training, guidance, and insight to other members of the editorial team as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a social media manager or a related role within a newsroom or media organization.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality, engaging content that resonates with our audience.
  • Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools such as SocialFlow and Google Analytics.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and how to optimize content for social media.
  • Experience managing social media accounts and engaging with audiences.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and apply social media metrics.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain high editorial standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with different CMS and editorial tools.

** Salary Range: $70,000/yr – $90,000/yr**
