The Messenger seeks a general assignment reporter content curator (audience development)

We are seeking a talented and passionate General Assignment Reporter / Content Curator to join our news organization in the Audience Development Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for researching, writing, and producing high-quality news stories and content, as well as curating and posting on social media platforms.

Hours and Location:

This position is fully remote and can be worked from anywhere in the United States. Hybrid options are available for candidates working near one of our offices in New York or D.C. Our team members may be assigned to a variety of shifts, which could include weekends, mornings, regular 9-5 hours, or shifts extending into the evening. The nature of our work demands a level of availability that aligns with the dynamic nature of the news cycle and social media engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Write news stories and content that are engaging, accurate, informative, and rapid.
  • Publish and promote content on social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources to identify high-impact stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
  • Pitch story ideas and work with editors and other members of the editorial team to develop new angles and angles to existing stories.
  • Ensure that all content is optimized for SEO and social media.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as design and development, to ensure that all content is visually appealing, user-friendly, and optimized for different platforms.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, developments, and emerging technologies related to news and social media.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a reporter, content curator, or a related role within a news organization.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to produce accurate, engaging, and informative news stories.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and best practices for content promotion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to identify stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
  • Knowledge of AP style and other editorial guidelines.
  • Familiarity with different CMS and editorial tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Base salary: $70,000/yr – $90,000/yr
