The Messenger seeks a congressional reporter

The Messenger seeking a skilled and experienced congressional reporter to cover the latest news and events on Capitol Hill. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the legislative process, a keen eye for detail, impeccable sourcing with congressional leadership, and the ability to produce accurate and engaging content on tight deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Cover breaking news and events related to Congress, including legislative debates, committee hearings, and votes.
  • Conduct interviews with members of Congress, staff, and other stakeholders to gather information and insights.
  • Break news from inside the room, revealing to our readers what’s goin on behind the scenes.
  • Write news articles, features, and analyses on Congress and related issues.
  • Collaborate with editors and other reporters to produce multimedia content, including videos and podcasts.
  • Use social media and other digital tools to engage with readers and promote your work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, political science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience covering Congress or other political beats for a reputable news organization.
  • Strong writing and reporting skills, with a track record of producing high-quality journalism on deadline.
  • Knowledge of congressional procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain relationships with sources and colleagues.
  • Familiarity with digital tools and social media platforms.
