The Messenger seeks a breaking news reporter

The Messenger. is seeking dynamic and experienced breaking news reporters to join our newsroom team. As breaking news reporters, you will be responsible for delivering timely and accurate news updates to our readers. You will be assigned to work in the area of your expertise – either news, politics, business, sports or entertainment. You will be required to write and publish stories quickly and accurately while adhering to high journalistic standards. The positions include hybrid office schedules for those in the New York, Los Angeles or Washington DC metro areas, and fully remote for those elsewhere.

Responsibilities:

  • Cover breaking news stories and events across a wide range of topics
  • Conduct research and interviews to gather information and verify facts
  • Write compelling news articles and headlines that engage readers and meet SEO requirements
  • Understand the importance of social media to promote and share news content
  • interpret and analyze data analytics to optimize news content performance
  • Collaborate with other reporters and editors to coordinate coverage and ensure consistency in tone and style
  • Maintain a strong network of sources and contacts to stay ahead of breaking news stories

 Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
  • Two to five years of experience as a breaking news reporter in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  • Strong news judgment, excellent writing skills, and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Comfortable working in a team environment and collaborating with other reporters and editors

Salary range for this role is $65,000 to $95,000 per year
