Journo Jobs

The Markup seeks a news editor

At The Markup, we believe that not everything that is “new” is “news” and not everything that is “news” is “new.” Our News Editor will oversee a steady rhythm of articles that aim to illuminate the impact of technology on society, some of which will be originally reported news and many of which will assemble for readers the best available knowledge about an important topic.

The News Editor will oversee a team of reporters and freelancers who will persistently monitor and uncover the ways that tech affects people. They will produce well-reported, creatively told short- and medium-term enterprise stories, accountability stories, graphics and explainers that will be published at least twice a week on the website.

The News Editor will not only provide wordsmithing but will also probe the accuracy and depth of the reporting and raise questions about tone and fairness. S/he will work with the copy editor, graphics editor and legal counsel to carry the stories across the finish line to publication.

The News Editor will report to the Editor-in-Chief.
