The Know seeks a freelance editor

The Know is a news organization that delivers straightforward, objective information to an audience of young professionals. We leverage primary source data in our original daily reporting, and commit to an approachable, digestible, and non-sensational tone and style. Our stories are non-partisan and enjoyable to read.

We’re looking for an experienced editor who can independently edit daily political reporting and help bring it to life. Editors must balance a need to add style and tone, with maintaining factual accuracy and commitment to non-sensationalism.

This requires you to:

  • Rigorously edit short news stories for grammar, spelling, and length
  • Fact-check stories for accuracy
  • Bring stories to life by incorporating brand-consistent style and tone
  • Collaborate with reporters and ask clarifying questions
  • Manage to a deadline

Here are some traits we expect from our editors:

  • A keen pulse on political news
  • A passion for our mission and commitment to the future of journalism and democracy
  • Commitment to objectivity and nonpartisanship
  • Adherence to code of ethics
  • Ability to work independently
  • Thorough attention to detail
  • Understanding of what style and tone resonates with our audience
  • A team player

Time commitment:

  • Roughly 2-3 hours of editing per day (M-F), with opportunity to take on more hours, if interested
  • Project is on-going

If you’re interested in applying, please email: selena [at] theknow [dot] io. We’d love to hear from you.
