The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register are award-winning print and digital publications serving West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle and Eastern Ohio. We have an immediate opening for a Sports Editor to join our team and direct coverage in our nine-county region. Experience as a sports editor is a plus, but we are willing to work with and train the right sports reporter looking to take that next step in their career.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the editorial content of our sports section, including writing and editing stories, assigning articles to freelance writers, and ensuring that all content is accurate and up-to-date. Page design skills — or a willingness to learn how to design pages — also are required. Our sports staff covers everything from high school and community sports to a professional hockey team and two Division II universities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports and a deep understanding of the industry, as well as strong writing and editing skills.
