The Information seeks a cryptocurrency reporter

September 7, 2018

Posted by Chris Roush

The Information is building a team of reporters to cover the business of cryptocurrencies.

Almost 10 years since Satoshi’s original bitcoin white paper, the market cap of crypto is climbing and billions more are flowing into the ecosystem. News organizations are racing to cover the slew of announcements and news. Headlines about bubbles and pricing pops abound. But too often the coverage creates more confusion, by hyping scams and failing to answer fundamental business questions.

Just as we have done in traditional technology for many years and across hundreds of scoops, we are investing in delivering real in-depth business coverage of the crypto industry. We are looking for reporters who want to know how the largest crypto companies make their money, not just the price of their tokens.

We want diggers who can investigate the key regulators, globally, and how they are making their decisions. We want reporters who understand the financial plumbing and can think three steps ahead to which parts are most prone to disruption, and who the new winners will be. These roles offer the chance to report for a deeply engaged and influential audience, something critical in crypto where coverage too often devolves to the lowest common denominator.

Given it’s early days for the industry, this coverage offers the opportunity to make a big mark and will backed by the full support and promotion of The Information brand, with resources for podcasts, events, newsletters, boot camps and more. You will get to work with The Information’s 25-person reporting and editing team, the best in the tech business with deep sources throughout tech and finance to help you nail big stories.

Hailing from the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and Bloomberg, our team has won numerous awards, including several Pulitzer Prizes. And we’re just getting started. Fast Company recently named us one of the most innovative companies in news.Experience covering the crypto beat is a huge plus but we’d love to talk to any fabulous reporter who has a deep interest in crypto and a track record of breaking big news and writing in-depth features.

On top of highly competitive compensation, we have excellent benefits, including:

Company-paid health coverage for employees and their dependents;
A generous parental leave policy for new parents;
Paid leave of three weeks or more;
401(k) plans;
A gym and fitness stipend;
A highly professional, inclusive, diverse workplace;
Beautiful offices in the heart of the Financial District in San Francisco as well as in midtown Manhattan and Central Hong Kong.
