The Hustle seeks a staff writer to cover business and technology

The Hustle is one of the country’s fastest-growing media companies. We are a community of builders who are hellbent on changing the world through business.

THE ROLE
This role is ideal for a versatile writer capable of generating big ideas at the intersection of business and technology. You’ll contribute across our editorial products, writing stories for our daily email and its audience of 1m+ subscribers, our long-form Sunday edition, and our paid member community for entrepreneurs, Trends. We’re also looking for candidates with experience producing podcasts and videos as we continue to grow our offerings in those areas.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
— Generate distinctive story ideas, using your mastery of the day’s most important tech and business news, and by developing a deep network of sources.
— Write engaging pieces on daily deadlines that convey the news in The Hustle’s signature voice (bonus points if you can make us laugh).
— Contribute longer, more deeply reported pieces that surprise and delight our readers, showing them how the worlds of tech and business are changing.
— Help us find creative new ways to engage with our daily audience and our fast-growing entrepreneurial community.
— Be comfortable wearing many hats as we adapt to meet our audience’s needs.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
— A creative approach to storytelling and idea generation
— A demonstrated ability to identify shifts in business and technology and write stories that inform a highly educated audience
— Ability to deliver clean copy under daily deadline pressure
— Experience writing short- and long-form content

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
