The Herald-Times, part of the USA Today Network, is hiring an Indiana University and general assignment reporter in Bloomington, Indiana.

This is not your typical higher ed beat: IU accounts for half of the population of Bloomington and draws an audience from across Indiana and beyond. You’ll need to be skilled in source development, use of public records and databases, have a digital-first mindset and be willing to go beyond a press release or meeting.

You’ll also have the opportunity to drive readership and engagement by jumping on stories essential to our community by dispelling hoaxes, delving into the subjects people are talking about and telling the stories of the people and places that make Bloomington and Monroe County special.

In The Herald-Times newsroom you will find seasoned reporters, a supportive editing team and encouragement and pathways to achieve your career goals. Whether you’re just starting out or want to call Bloomington home for the long term, The Herald-Times provides a welcoming environment.
