The Harpswell Anchor is seeking a reporter to cover the news in Harpswell, Maine, with a focus on town government and schools. The reporter also will cover breaking news and business news, write features, and contribute to longer-term projects. In addition, the reporter may fill in for the editor and take on other tasks as necessary.
Candidates should have a strong command of the fundamentals of journalism and newswriting, including Associated Press style, the inverse pyramid, and the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics. Experience as a full-time journalist is preferred, but candidates with relevant education and/or experience will be considered. Photography experience is a plus.
The Harpswell Anchor is a monthly newspaper with a daily web presence at harpswellanchor.org.
The reporter will work remotely, but often will come to Harpswell to cover news and assist with or attend organizational functions. The reporter will work as a member of a small team with an editor, a director of development and operations, a manager of advertising and sponsorships, an administrative assistant and several freelancers.
The Anchor intends to hire a reporter for 40 hours per week, but will consider candidates for part-time or freelance work.
The annual salary for a full-time reporter will range from $40,000 to $50,000.
The hourly wage for a part-time reporter will range from $19 to $24.
