The Denver Gazette seeks a breaking news reporter

The Breaking News reporter will be a key member of the Denver Gazette team and will provide content in the form of breaking new for the website and our daily digital newspaper, as well as coverage of Denver and suburban city government.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for covering breaking news stories in metro Denver, such as crime, fire and other events.
• Responsible for breaking news for digital and e-edition platforms.
• As assigned, responsible for reporting on city council meetings and other government meetings, elections, housing, transportation and traffic, education and workforce issues and other news.
• Collaborate and maintain strong working relationships with other Denver Gazette staff to ensure growth of audiences and to increase reader loyalty and improve engagement.
• Convey news and tell stories using multiple tools, including writing social media, photos and video.
• Develop a wide range of political sources in metro Denver.
• Compile appealing slideshows and listicles to engage readers.
• Write offbeat short stories.
• Develop and maintain good relations with the local community.

Minimum Education & Work Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or mass communications.
