The Deal seeks senior writer

The Deal LLC, a division of TheStreet Inc. recently named as one of Folio:’s Top Places to Work in Media and whose newsroom was just awarded the prestigious SABEW award for Digital General Excellence for the second consecutive year, is seeking a senior writer to join the team.

The senior writer will be responsible for sourcing, developing, analyzing and writing in-depth editorial copy for daily and weekly financial publications. The right candidate will be able to break news and provide sophisticated analysis of mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, private equity deals and other transactions.

Other Responsibilities include:

• Evaluate news leads and tips to develop story ideas.
• Gathers and verifies factual information regarding story through interview, observation and research.
• Organize material, determine emphasis and write stories according to The Deal editorial style.
• Represent The Deal on television, video or as a speaker at industry events.
• The person in this position will be expected to follow market trends and provide sophisticated analysis that will be useful to a readership of investment bankers, attorneys, money managers and other market professionals.

The ideal candidate will:

• Be able to develop a source network of hedge fund managers, investment bankers and attorneys;
• Be familiar with company income statements and balance sheets and know how to find news in Securities and Exchange Commission filings;
• Have a working knowledge of corporate finance, specifically private investments in public equity
• Be familiar with measures of how companies are valued;
• Have experience covering legal issues and securities law in particular;
• Have some experience with using financial databases such as Bloomberg, Standard & Poor’s Capital IQ or Thomson Reuters Knowledge.

Other Requirements:

• 5+ years prior financial reporting experience
• Degree in Journalism, Business, English or equivalent professional experience
• Very strong writing and questioning/investigative skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Comfort level with financial terminology and numbers
• Strong interest in global “deal” economy: M&A, venture capital, private equity, etc.
