The Deal LLC, an award-winning financial multi-media division of The Street Inc., is seeking an Assistant Managing Editor with excellent writing and interpersonal skills, a solid working knowledge of sophisticated corporate finance concepts, a facility for working with spreadsheets and data feeds, and an ambition to provide insightful, well-reported and timely stories to a customer base of highly knowledgeable financial and deal-oriented professionals.
We want an editor who can work closely with our Washington, D.C., and New York staffs on shareholder activism stories as well as our entire editorial staff on private equity coverage. These stories range from breaking daily news items to astute analysis pieces to sharp features and data-driven columns.
The ideal successful candidate will be someone who can generate ideas and help others cultivate their own, serving as a sounding board for reporters who are navigating complex regulatory, corporate governance and return on investment issues.
This senior person should be comfortable being in a digital newsroom, with an interest in being involved with video and other projects, as well. The position is full-time in our New York office.
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of editing experience for a daily newspaper, web site or wire service.
• Strong work ethic interested in bringing out the best in others
• Solid knowledge of corporate finance issues
• Ability to work well with others under daily deadline pressure
• Excellent editing and writing skills, with ability to craft catchy headlines
• Experience compiling a daily news budget
• Team player who can help others generate story ideas
• Journalism or related bachelor’s degree required
• Experience doing video work
• Experience working with spreadsheets and data
