The Dallas Morning News is offering a summer digital producer internship at its downtown Dallas office. The intern producer will work directly with the Audience team to creatively promote its journalism and may have the opportunity to write stories and produce content to appeal to our digital readers.
The candidate must have strong writing and editing skills, plus an excellent understanding of social media, Internet culture and the digital space. The interns will be expected to write strong digital headlines, craft social media posts and create multimedia elements for social, including video, GIFs, Snapchat stories, Instagram stories and Twitter cards.
You will also help manage the dallasnews.com home page, monitor real-time analytics and make decisions based on that information; improve and test headlines; optimize article pages; push news app alerts to readers; and collaborate with writers and editors on plans for story promotion.
The company seeks someone with a working knowledge of SEO and digital best practices, who can work on tight deadlines and fast-moving breaking news situations.
Applicants should send links to relevant work on websites, blogs, social media or in print.
All interns will also be expected to write features, take smartphone photos and video, and actively use social media in the news-gathering process.
All interns will be assigned to a specific department, but some could be asked to cover a narrowly focused beat — at the forefront of experiments to grow the digital audience.
Applicants should send no more than eight newspaper clips or story links. Clips may be reduced, but must be legible, or the application will be rejected.
The applicant’s primary clips or links should focus on the specific position the applicant desires, but clips or links showing a variety of reporting and writing ability are acceptable.
