The Dallas Express seeks a news producer for podcast

The Dallas Express is looking for a News Producer to oversee its new weekly video news podcast with a focus on sophisticated content, accuracy and engagement.

Our commitment is to serve our audience in Dallas and throughout the Lone Star State. We strive to provide our readers with a product that they want, need and feel is theirs. We hold decision-makers accountable for their actions and seek answers to the questions that matter most to our readers. Ultimately, we want to improve the quality of life for every resident of Dallas by delivering news that is informative, engaging and impactful.

Our video news podcast is hosted by a successful businesswoman and community influencer who co-founded The Dallas Express. We are looking for a proactive individual who can consistently deliver quality work without constant supervision. The candidate should be willing to develop their career in a fast-paced news environment, where meeting deadlines is crucial.

This role is based in Dallas, and the successful candidate can either work out of our office or from home — or a mix of the two — and be available to travel for local segment filming and in-studio sessions.

Duties include:

  • Assisting with identifying and booking guests, including politicians, business and community leaders and other newsmakers
  • Working collaboratively to build impactful shows and produce exclusive content
  • Writing scripts for the shows, including intros, outros and questions for the guests
  • Managing the show’s format clock, which includes multiple segments, and serving as the vital link between The Dallas Express and our studio partner
  • Assisting with shooting content as part of remote assignments for segments
  • Providing feedback and necessary creative direction to video editors to produce each week’s episode
  • Ensuring that the sophistication of each episode is consistent and that stakeholders deliver a polished final product

REQUIRED SKILLS & EDUCATION:

The successful candidate for this role will possess:

  • A track record of creating compelling and engaging content for TV, radio or video podcasts in a news environment
  • The ability to execute while under pressure with confidence and a calm demeanor
  • The capability to multitask and manage time in order to put together an exciting and informative video podcast
  • A comfort with meeting deadlines
  • The ability to not just identify problems but help deliver meaningful solutions
  • A strong understanding of and commitment to journalistic standards and ethics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A minimum of one year producing in a television or radio news environment or equivalent. Strong candidates with internships in a TV or radio news environment will be considered.
  • A college degree in journalism, broadcast journalism or equivalent work experience

SALARY RANGE: $60,000 to $70,000
