The Daily Sentinel seeks a staff photographer

The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction Colorado is looking for a creative full-time photographer.

Requirements:

  • We are seeking someone who can see beyond the lens and bring back compelling stories.
  • Candidate should have a minimum of 1-year experience shooting for a newspaper, and experience in all areas from news to sports.

Responsibilities:

  • You will cover day to day general assignments, shoot sports events, plus in-depth features and investigative assignments.
  • This is a demanding position with lots of great opportunities to showcase your photographer talents.
  • You should have strong editing skills, excellent people skills, a strong work ethic, and a great attitude.
  • A passion for story telling is absolutely essential in this position, plus strong cutline writing ability.
  • Taking on video projects will also be required from time to time.

The Daily Sentinel is located in Grand Junction, the largest city between Denver and Salt Lake City and a growing regional hub for higher education, shopping, business, health care and transportation. The area is an outdoor recreation mecca that offers beautiful scenery, a high quality of life and less traffic and cheaper housing than many areas of the state. The area is also full of wineries and brew pubs with a very active live music and concert scene. Outdoor rec opportunities range from spectacular mountain biking and hiking, to fishing and a variety of other possibilities.

Sports duties include shooting high school events, plus a D-II college with a number of high-level programs, the junior college world series every May, a minor league baseball team as well as outdoor recreation photo opportuniteis.

Salary: $35,000 to $40,000
