The Clermont Sun seeks a sports editor

The Clermont Sun has an immediate opening for the position of Sports Editor. If you love high school sports, are enthusiastic, able to work independently – yet contribute as part of a team – this may be the position for you. We are looking for a sports journalist to join our award-winning weekly publication. This is not a desk job – it’s feet on the ground covering the best of Clermont County!

Responsibilities:

  • Read content and correct spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.
  • Rewrite text to make it easier for readers to understand.
  • Verify facts cited in material for publication.
  • Evaluate submissions from writers to decide what to publish.
  • Work with writers to help their ideas and stories succeed.
  • Develop story and content ideas according to the publication’s style and editorial policy.
  • Allocate space for the text, photos, and illustrations that make up a story or content.
  • Approve final versions submitted by staff.

Preferred candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism
  • Experience covering sports.
  • However, recent graduates with intern or high school experience are encouraged to apply, as this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience while learning the newspaper business.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style
  • Working knowledge of Social Media Platforms are required.
