The Chicago Sun Times Media Inc seeks a profile reporter

We are seeking a Profile Writer to join our growing newsroom. The Profile Writer will ideate, report and write exciting stories on essential figures who died and some living figures with ties to the Chicago area.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has strong research and interviewing skills. We are looking for a writer who can create a compelling narrative and has some historical knowledge of the area. You will follow one of America’s best obituary writers now in semi-retirement.

Core Duties:

  • Provide compelling narratives on interesting figures with ties to the Chicago area.
  • Able to report accurately and deliver entirely sourced narrative on tight deadlines
  • Work collaboratively with editors and other reporters on stories.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of three years of experience as a reporter
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, or a related field
  • Strong news judgment
  • Vital research and interviewing skills
  • Knowledge of Chicagoland history, neighborhoods, and suburbs
  • Ability to collaborate with reporters and editors on stories
