The Belmont Voice seeks a production editor

The Belmont Voice, an independent news organization dedicated to providing meaningful local coverage to the Town of Belmont, is looking for a production editor to be part of our launch — and beyond. As part of the inaugural editorial and production team, the Production Editor will help chart the course for local Belmont news coverage in this new weekly print newspaper, regularly updated website, and newsletter.

Designing, drafting, editing, and more. The successful candidate will be an expert on the use of InDesign who carries an understanding of the latest in newspaper and ad design. We are looking for someone who can meet strict deadlines, rewrite and modify headlines on the fly, edit news copy to meet AP style, and pass some of their knowledge to others in the newsroom. Experience in project management and knowledge of WordPress, the Google application suite, and Slack will be assets but are not required. Because we are a brand-new editorial staff, the Production Editor may also be asked to take on some reporting and writing assignments as time allows.

Salary and hours. The salary for this full-time position will be commensurate with experience in a range of $50k-$60k. Health and other benefits will be provided. Note that given the planned production schedule, the Production Editor will likely be finalizing the layout of the paper on Tuesday of every week.

To apply. To submit your resume, short cover letter and examples of designs or drafting work you have done, please fill out this form.
