The Atlanta Journal Constitution seeks an executive producer video/audio

The AJC is seeking an Executive Producer Video/Audio. This person will be responsible for the strategy and overall direction of audio and video products.  They will oversee the Video and Audio production teams. The person will be responsible for setting the strategic and creative direction of the teams, establishing the tone and voice of AJC video and audio content, overseeing the editorial output and delivering on key performance metrics.

The ideal candidate will have experience in video and audio production, journalism and storytelling with specific expertise in digital video production and programming. The person will be able to provide leadership, management and direction to a large team as well as hands-on editorial and production guidance.

The role will require experience with news and feature production, short-form and long-form content, and live and taped programming.

The EP will be responsible for shaping and overseeing daily video and audio coverage as well as a slate of video series and podcasts and several live, or live-to-tape shows.The ideal candidate must also have experience working on cross-functional digital organizations and be comfortable navigating matrixed structures.

Direct Reports Include:

Senior Producer of Video News and Features – plus team of 5-7 producers/editors

Senior Producer of Audio – plus team of 3-5 producers/editors

Senior Broadcast Producer – plus team of 2 producers

Booker

Operations Producer – plus team of 2-3 production editors

Responsibilities:

Programming Strategy

  • Strategic planning of the audio and video products offered.
  • Strategic production of the video/audio programming including recommending which programming is for audio, which is for video and which is for both.
  • Recommend new programming ideas and formats including ideal program schedule that maximizes the productivity of the talent while fulfilling our sponsor needs.
  • Recommend which programming is live and which programming is recorded.  Build a repeatable consistent strategy for each format.
  • Research how other successful companies use programming strategy and recommend new ideas, including sponsor integration.
  • Develops objectives and strategies to ensure integration of and effectiveness of sponsorship sales and events (e.g., sponsorship / partner and related customer events).

Leadership & Operations:

  • Set direction of the day-to-day audio and video operations to be executed by sr. producers
  • Awareness of and ability with equipment needed for production.
  • Overall responsibility that necessary equipment is operational and ready to perform any and all audio and video production
  • Conceptualizes and requests marketing collateral from marketing.
  • Work with leadership on additional staffing needs and responsibilities.  May include hiring of freelance videographers as needed for special assignments.
  • Lead special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS and 12 years of relevant experience (MS+10 years, Ph.D.+7 years or 16 years with no formal degree)
  • 7 years’ experience in a leadership role
  • Documented examples of program creation from ideation to broadcast
