Texas paper seeks business journalist

The Texarkana Gazette, a 28,000-circulation daily covering Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas, has an opening on its 32-person staff for a Business Editor/Writer who will also have online responsibilities and backstop sectional editors.

We’re looking for a versatile journalist who can cover local business news large and small. We’re looking for a contributor with demonstrated expertise in covering business, technology, industry, manufacturing, personal finance and maybe a little ag.

Scope of beat includes: Opening and closings, Chamber of Commerce, transportation, water and timber issues, an army depot, redevelopment authority, trends, and contributing a weekly business column. We’re looking for a strong daily producer who is good at making sense of the numbers behind the news.

Academic or vocational background in online journalism, presentation and audience development is desired as we continue expanding our presence on multiple platforms. As a key editor on a small staff, this position also has responsibilities editing locally-generated feature, news and editorial page content.

Schedule varies based on coverage needs, but the shift is mostly during business hours with one evening shift.
