Telluride Local Media seeks an associate editor

Telluride Local Media Inc., publisher of the award-winning Telluride Daily Planet, is seeking an Associate Editor. Position is work-from-home and may be structured as half-time or full time. Full-time can be a 4-day workweek most of the time.

  • Candidates must have excellent writing and editing skills
  • A strong work ethic
  • The ability to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Seeking a team player who communicates well with colleagues and community members.
  • The ideal employee will be able to produce several stories a week that are accurate, informative and timely.
  • Besides reporting, responsibilities will include pulling wire stories, organizing content, copy editing, working with freelancers and occasionally overseeing day-to-day editorial operations of a small department.
  • Our editorial staff cover everything from local government meetings and politics, to outdoor recreation, sports and the environment. Many lively festivals and special events unfold in this beautiful mountain town.
  • Command of AP style is important
  • Average or better photography and social media skills are required
  • Some newspaper reporting experience required
  • A journalism degree preferred.

Full-time salary is $45-$50k depending on experience

The Planet publishes Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Telluride Local Media also publishes several successful glossy magazines throughout the year.

Telluride is a historic mining town turned ski resort located in the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado. Along with breathtaking scenery, it’s home to a string of summer music festivals, a lively music and arts scene, an endless supply of recreation opportunities. This is a community where news publications remain very important to both locals and visitors, and readership of both our print and online products remains strong.
