Taos News seeks a magazine editor

The Taos News, an independently owned newspaper in Northern New Mexico, is seeking a magazine editor to manage production for its magazines and other supplemental publications to its weekly newspaper.

Our newspaper produces more than 25 special sections annually, including winter and summer visitors guides, dining guides, real estate guides, and Tradiciones, our fall series of publications exploring the arts, traditions and unsung heroes of Taos. The magazine editor also coordinates and edits sponsored stories highlighting local businesses.

The magazine editor is a key member of our award-winning newsroom staff. Successful candidates should be true team players with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The Taos News is ranked as the best small weekly in the U.S. by the National Newspaper Association. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a central role in continuing our newspaper’s legacy of outstanding community journalism for some of our most important publications.

Job requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience at magazines or newspapers
  • Substantial experience in writing/editing for magazines
  • Excellent writing and interviewing skills
  • Impeccable journalistic ethics
  • Strong knowledge of AP style
  • Graphic design and photography/photo editing experience strongly preferred
  • Substantial experience in magazine planning, layout and design
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and manage freelance writers and photographers
