Tampa Bay Times seeks a newsletters & social media producer

Representing the Tampa Bay Times, the newsletter and social media producer interacts and engages with audiences across all of our digital platforms, including newsletters, social media, push alerts and the homepage. They are highly involved with the Times’ engagement strategy as well as developing and sharing best practices with the newsroom.

Responsibilities include:

  • Refining our newsletters’ tone, voice and identity as an editor of some newsletters and a writer/curator of others, including our suite of daily newsletters.
  • Building audience engagement around individual newsletters. This can include surveying readers for input and creating projects that include reader involvement.
  • Seeking out new audiences for our stories across different social media platforms.
  • Advising and collaborating with editors and reporters on engagement story plans, and organizing and executing campaigns to promote newsletters.
  • Conceptualizing and executing newsletter and social projects in tandem with other members of the engagement team and newsroom. This can include newsletter experimentation or testing ideas on new platforms.
  • Working with the photo and design teams to improve the visual elements of newsletters.
  • Tracking and interpreting analytics on newsletter subscriber growth and behavior patterns in collaboration with the newsroom’s audience strategist.
  • Working shifts that include composing accurate and well-written social posts, crafting push notifications and managing the homepage.
  • Staying abreast of industry trends and benchmarks, and implementing strategies that would grow our overall audience and subscriber base.

Skills and experience requirements:

  • Relevant internship or job experience, preferably 1-2 years.
  • Idea-generator with the ability to handle multiple tasks within a given time frame and meet deadlines.
  • Clean and sharp writing and editing skills. Comfortable being clever when appropriate.
  • Familiarity with newsletter and social media best practices.
  • Strong news judgment.
  • Eagerness to collaborate across the newsroom, provide feedback and ask questions.
  • Willingness and ability to positively represent the Times online and in person.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Listrak, SocialFlow, Later and Canva is a plus.
