STAT seeks news editor

STAT, a national digital publication covering health, medicine, and the life sciences, is looking for a dynamic and energetic news editor in our Boston headquarters.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science, business, or health care journalism, as well as several years’ experience editing at a daily news organization.

The news editor must be adept at generating ideas, directing coverage, editing copy, and helping to manage production on the website. The editor must also be comfortable moving quickly on breaking news. The job involves working directly with both reporters and our multimedia team to develop provocative and insightful stories – and to tell them in creative ways.

This is a start-up publication, so flexibility, team spirit, and a willingness to innovate are essential. Also essential: Fidelity to bedrock journalistic values and a commitment to excellence. The job is based in Boston.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
