Star Democrat seeks a reporter

Needed: A news reporter for the Star Democrat with experience covering local news and features, writing news content and working with digital and/or print media. The reporter will be responsible for finding stories, reporting local news coverage and putting together about 8 articles per week focusing on Talbot County, Maryland and the surrounding counties of Queen Anne’s, Caroline and Dorchester.

The reporter will report to the editor and managing editor of the Star Democrat.

Necessary Qualifications: 

  •  Experience reporting and writing at a local newspaper or media outlet
  •  Familiarity with print journalism
  •  Experience with digital media and social media usage
  •  Ability to write on deadline and work independently
  •  An understanding of local journalism and its importance in a local community

Writing, photography and social media skills of any level are a must. Video and other multimedia skills are a plus. You must be able to report and write accurately and fairly.

The Star Democrat is a daily newspaper of record covering much of Maryland’s Mid-Shore region. You will cover many beats, including crime, courts, breaking news and features. Much of the work will be conducted on an enterprise basis, with a lot of freedom for individual reporting.

Salary: $30,000 to $35,000
