Stamford Advocate seek business reporter

Hearst Connecticut Media Group, the owner of four daily newspapers and five weeklies in Fairfield County, is looking for a seasoned business reporter for The Advocate, based out of Stamford.

The Advocate is a daily paper in a vibrant city that has everything – powerful politicians with state and national reach, fast-paced redevelopment of former industrial areas, high finance, immigrants, extreme wealth and poverty. Stamford is the second largest city in the state, and one of the few that is growing economically.

We need a reporter to write engaging enterprise stories of interest to all readers – someone who knows how to navigate financial reports and SEC documents and maneuver through skilled public relations

organizations. Candidates must have superb writing and organizational skills, an eye for a story, a positive attitude, and the ability to report and write multiple stories at the same time. Our reporters are expected to plan their stories out according to daily page needs, including arranging photos, graphics and other visual elements.

Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree

-Masters degree in journalism and some knowledge of corporate financial statements a plus

-Proven success at conceiving strong story ideas and producing clear, clean, original copy

-High comfort level with pushing reluctant and difficult sources to get stories

-Ability to meet extremely tight deadlines and work gracefully under pressure

-Must have driver’s license and car
