S&S Sports Business Journal seeks an assistant editor

S&S Sports Business Journal is seeking an assistant editor to lead coverage of sports, both in the Sports Business Journal and in its sister publication, The Esports Observer.

The ideal candidate will bring ideas and guidance to a team of reporters and work with and manage that group. The assistant editor will edit stories, plan packages and oversee the direct deployment of resources across various publishing platforms daily and weekly to strengthen SBJ and TEO coverage of this important growth area. Strong journalistic, organizational and communication skills are a must.

Candidates must have understanding and interest in esports and gaming, solid news sense, an ability to make snap judgments about the proper treatment of stories and confidence in orchestrating the many simultaneous actions of the editorial team members. This assistant editor must be nimble and turn around copy accurately and succinctly and think big with a view of packaging stories/information/data in print, online and mobile.

This candidate must also be willing to conduct outreach into the sports community. In addition, the editor must be willing to work with reporters to shape content, find holes in stories, offer ideas on sourcing and serve as a mentor for reporters, helping pave their way to continual improvement, learning and growth.

Strong journalistic, organizational and communication skills are a must. Organization must be a strength, and the person must be willing to be open-minded while willing to serve as a change agent in the newsroom, actively advocating for the improvements and resources that take Sports Business Journal/Daily and The Esports Observer content to the next level.
