Sports Business Journal seeks social media manager

SportsBusiness Journal/Daily is seeking a Manager of Social and Digital Media.

This position will have responsibility for our social media feeds, but this isn’t just about posting to Facebook. We’re looking for someone  who constantly monitors social media and trending topics on the web in order to ensure that our coverage slipstreams into the most robust news conversations of the day.

Applicants should have a track record of building audience, driving traffic, fostering reader interaction and helping content go viral. We also need someone who can help us build more engagement with people who already know and love our products, whether in print, online or at one of our popular conferences and events.

The right person is driven by metrics and uses analytics as a constant feedback loop that refines best practices and helps guide our presence across a variety of digital and social platforms.

Responsibilities:

•   The Manager of Social and Digital Media will work with the editorial and business teams to drive more engagement on our digital and social platforms.

Web Duties:

•   Conceive and develop web presentations for prominent editorial packages, such as Forty Under 40, Sports Business Awards, etc., as well as breaking news and feature packages.

•   Develop and execute top-quality presentation strategies for special content created by SBJ/SBD, including videos and podcasts.

•   Generate daily, weekly and monthly analytics that inform newsroom decisions and promote cross-departmental collaboration.

•   Help with SEO strategy.

•   General web content maintenance, such as updating special section summaries, editorial calendars, advertising sections, etc.

Social Media Duties:

•   Help drive audience development and engagement through social media feeds to increase new paid subs.

•   Create and track social strategies around SBJ/SBD conferences and events.

•   Work with editorial team to maximize the effect of news published by SBJ/SBD.

•   Focus on social storytelling, and be able to use metrics/analysis to help target our efforts.

•   Establish and support social media best practices in the newsroom and throughout SBJ/SBD.

•   Help inform and drive news coverage daily by sharing trending topics and other insights gleaned from social media and search engines.

•   Develop and execute content strategies to consistently grow audience, engagement and the SBJ/SBD brand across multiple platforms.

Education, experience and skills:

  •  Exceptional fluency in social media
  •  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  •  Superior work ethic and integrity
  •  Team player who is resourceful and creative
  •  Experience with content management systems helpful

Working conditions and physical requirements:

  • General office environment in our Charlotte, N.C., headquarters. Extensive computer use required. Some travel required. Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
